My name is Ivy Sukenik, and I am the very proud principal of Sunset Ridge, a school that truly embodies its mission of “engaging the hearts and minds of students, one child at a time”.  From 4th through 8th grade, students participate in a variety of academic and extracurricular experiences that are always crafted with the whole child in mind. In this unique and small school, the exceptional staff at Sunset Ridge works tirelessly to know and understand each child in order to create an academic experience that meets the needs of all learners.

Outside of the classroom, students have a multitude of extracurricular experiences to choose from; ranging from athletics to robotics and from fine arts to Student Ambassadors, or all of the above, the options offered to students allow them to explore their interests and to try new opportunities. Throughout all their endeavors and experiences at Sunset Ridge, students are encouraged to feel empowered and to have their voices heard.

As part of our work with social-emotional learning, we utilize the RULER approach. RULER is an “evidence-based approach to social and emotional learning (SEL) developed at the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. RULER supports entire school communities in:

  • Understanding the value of emotions
  • Building the skills of emotional intelligence
  • Creating and maintaining positive school climates”

The connection to the community is another special aspect of Sunset Ridge School.  The Middlefork/Sunset Ridge PTO is a wonderful supporter of students and staff through the various programs and services that organization provides; parent volunteers make everything from holiday parties to lunch periods possible.

If you have any questions about this wonderful school or our community, please feel free to contact me at 847-881-9472 or sukeniki@srd29.org.
