Dr.Greene's Back-to-School Letter 2018

BOXTOPS FOR EDUCATION DRIVE continues at Middlefork School! Thanks to your contributions and the coordinated efforts of parent volunteers Trish Andrew and Steve Tomlinson, we recently received a check for $160.00! We are working with our students to decide how to put the money to good use. One idea is to create something memorable to be placed in our renovated library or makerspace next school year. Another is to put it toward a service project of the Dedicated Dolphins. So please don’t stop clipping and sending Boxtops in! They adorn hundreds of products, a list of which can be viewed at https://www.boxtops4education.com/earn/participating-products

THE TEMPERATURE’S DROPPING...and that means chillier recess days and - oh yes - SNOW! So please make sure your child comes to school prepared. It’s easy to forget when one moves from a heated house to a heated garage and car, and finally a toasty school! It also helps when your child’s name is “sharpied” inside his/her clothes. The Lost & Found is already filling up! Here are the clothing parameters for recess  play when there is snow on the ground: students with snow pants, boots, coats, hats & gloves can play anywhere there is snow (fields, grassy areas, wood chips, play equipment). Without snow pants and/or boots, students are restricted to the cleared areas of the blacktop. BELOW ZERO temps mean automatic indoor recess days. However, please send students with hats, gloves, and boots anyway, just in case. Also note that in the event of an emergency evacuation (e.g., fire alarm goes off), we are prepared to evacuate to the Northfield Community Church. There is no danger that we would be awaiting first responders outside.

LUNCHES FOR THE HOMELESS: Thank you in advance for supporting this ongoing lunch program at the First Baptist Church of Evanston. There are six donation dates in all, with each grade level assigned four dates. The next date is February 12 (1st & 3rd grades). Download the attached document for specifics on this 20+ year tradition. (homeless lunch dates Note.docx)
2019-20 KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION - NEW PROCEDURES: Registration has begun! All children should be five years of age by September 1, 2019, to be eligible for the 2019-2020 school year. The registration process begins with residency verification, which includes three different forms of documentation, as well as a copy of one's homeowner's or renter's insurance. This is true for ALL families, including those with older students presently registered in District 29. Additionally, parents or guardians of each prospective kindergarten student must provide the child's birth certificate (the school will make and retain a copy). Specific directions for the residency verification can be found under the Parent tab of this website. Lastly, the registration evening is for parents and guardians; the prospective student need not be present. Early enrollment figures are critical to staffing plans for the upcoming school year, so we appreciate everyone spreading the word and registering in January!

CELL PHONES IN THE DRIVEWAY: Drivers should cease using their cell phones during pick-up or drop-off time, when students are present on the sidewalk. We understand that some people arrive early, but once the students appear, the potential for distraction makes cell phone usage unsafe. Thank you for putting down your phones while there are children on the sidewalk!

PAJAMA DAY: is next Friday, February 1. Students should wear pajamas to school, but they should also be prepared with gym shoes and all outdoor recess gear. Stuffed animals are also permitted, but the stuffed toy should be no larger/longer than the child’s forearm (or distance of hand to elbow). Download the day's details (2/1/19), including the lunch menu, here. Pajama Day 2019.pdf
