Special Education Program
Student Services in District 29 encompasses a variety of supports designed to address the educational needs of our students and families. Students Services include all Special Education services, Early Childhood and response-to-intervention (RtI) services, Social Emotional Learning supports, student assessment services (e.g., Measures of Academic Progress (MAP), ACCESS for English Language Learners, Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR), Curriculum-Based Measurement), services for English Language Learners, Federal and State grants, and services for parentally placed students in private school settings within the District 29 boundary.
The District 29 Student Services staff is comprised of a diverse group of master educators and support personnel, with a child-centered approach to addressing the unique learning styles and individual gifts manifested by each child in our district. Student Services staff work collaboratively with general education staff, parents, and an array of community/private services providers to tailor programs that maximize the educational experience of every child, one child at a time.
Two critical distinguishing features of Student Services in District 29 is that all services are a) provided flexibly based on the identification of individual student needs and, b) are delivered in a proactive, inclusive manner. This means that access to students services is NOT necessarily contingent upon special education eligibility under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA) or Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Furthermore, most support services are provided in the general education classroom.
